I’m actually a little excited to announce this. At first it will probably sound like bad news, but believe me, it isn’t. Starting this week, Pinkerton will temporarily move to a 3x a week rotation. The truth of the matter is that things have gotten a little hectic around the Pinkerton compound between personal lives, my job, and the projects I’m working on. So it came down to making a decision of whether I wanted to try and squeeze out 5 strips a week that MIGHT be good or loosen the reins a little and let my brain breathe. I decided that my brain would prefer oxygen (plus, I really didn’t want to half-ass it for you guys).
So, with that being said, starting immediately I will be putting new strips out on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays until the New Year. I’ll post sketches and other goofy Pinkerton-related mumbo jumbo on Tuesdays and Thursdays. At first, I thought I’d post re-runs. But I figured that might confuse folks who are coming in mid-plot.
The cool thing is I’m working on a few fun projects: One being a new feature that I’ve been developing in the back of my noggin. Sorry, nothing to report yet other than I’m trying to re-invent my style for this new idea. The other being Pinkerton Volume #2. And finally, a guest strip for my friend Brock Heasley’s “Superfogeys.”
But don’t worry, dear campers, Pinkerton is still my main squeeze. I hope this doesn’t kill your appetite for the furry little gang.

No prob on the cutting down to 3x.Back in '96 I was trying to do a daily online humor column daily. Darn hard. And I didn't have to draw. Then I added a weekly celebrity gossip column which started to outpace the humor column in popularity (particularly when I syndicated it to the Internet Movie Database). Scaled back the humor column to twice a week for a few months, but eventually ended it as the gossip column got more popular and took more spare time.
By 1998 the gossip column was getting tens of thousands of web visitors a week on the weekly issue at IMDb, thousands more on the archives at my site, and around 8,000 e-mail subscribers... and I was usually losing money on it every month.
Eventually, I just decided I wanted a semi-lucrative day job and a social life more than fame. I quit publishing online, went to work as a courseware developer at Nortel, traded in my dented old truck on a new Honda Accord, got a nice new apartment and actually got some women to come back to it... until the IMDb got bought by Amazon and used some of that new money and Amazon stock options to hire me on as Senior Editor five months later.
I know from personal experience how hard it is to be creative and funny 5 days a week, especially when it's not your day job. But I hope you'll be able to keep plugging along for a while yet.
This is the first webcomic I started reading regularly. If it wasn't for you, I probably wouldn't be plaguing the comments sections over at Imagine This, Someday Hero, and Bullfinch. So, even if this is the beginning of the end (which I hope it's not), thanks for getting me hooked on webcomics.

Wow, 10,000. That's impressive. Is that RSS subscribers, e-mail subscribers, or both? You should be proud to be able to communicate with that many people on a regular basis.tyler_durden says...

Greg: Barring getting hit by a bus or any life-altering experience, Pinkerton will be here. I have been really enjoying the 3x a week rotation though. It's given me some time to really work out dialog and character developments. So for now, I'm stretching out and enjoying the decreased level of pressure.tpiro: GoComics has a couple different subscription models: E-mail subscribers (folks who get pinkerton in their e-mail for free) and the MyComics subscribers (folks who are pay customers of GoComics and have my comic on their custom mycomics page). The subscribers I'm referring to are the latter. I'd be curious to see how many folks receive Pinkerton by e-mail from Go.
Tyler: That's a good question. You should research that one.
Mariam: LOL. No, Shelley Winters was an actress from the 50's and 60's. Most recently she appeared as the Grandmother in Roseanne.
Brandy: Would you like a little marinara with your pocket fuzz?

The handpuppet was Lambchop - handled by Sari Lewis. Gold star please.Hopefully you are figuring out a way to monitize this operation.
Greg - hopefully the stock options were per-2001.

Quality over quantity is always the way to go. Good luck in all your endeavors and I'm looking forward to all the new stuff as well as Pinkerton Vol. #2. And by the way.....lasagna should be kept in the back pocket so as not to crease the mozzarella.Jarrett says...

Third, I go away for a week or so and I come back to find Pinkerton knocked back to 3x a week!? CURSES WITMER!!! But...I see your point. And...it wont last forever.
Fourth, Im now caught up with 7 days worth of strips and non-sense. The struggling hamster...by far my fave. Tucker and Lance's back and forth...pretty damn funny word-wise too!

Trent - The options were pre 2001, but they struck at a high point, so they ended up being worthless for around 3 years.Of course, I was better off than many of my friends who went the dot.com route in the late '90s and ended up with worthless stock portfolios, worthless option packages, and unemployment checks.
